How to Share a PDF Without Email (or a Cloud Account)

3 min read · Updated 2026-09-12

Email is a bad delivery system for documents. Attachments bounce over 25MB, corporate filters quarantine anything unusual, and every PDF you send lives in two inboxes forever. If you just need someone to have a document, there is a cleaner route.

Hand over a passphrase instead of a link

Upload the PDF at droploder.com and you get a word passphrase. The person receiving it types the passphrase on their own device and the document downloads.

Unlike a shared cloud link, there is no permissions dialogue, no request-access email, and no account required on either side.

The document is deleted as soon as the recipient downloads it, and expires by itself within 24 hours if they never do — which is usually exactly how long a document actually needs to be reachable.

When this is the right tool

Signed paperwork you would rather not leave in an inbox indefinitely.

A scanned document you need on your work computer in the next two minutes.

Files that exceed a mail provider's attachment limit but are not big enough to justify setting up a file-sharing account.

Sending a document to somebody who does not use the same cloud service you do.

When it is not

Long-term archiving. Transfers are deliberately temporary and delete themselves after a day.

Very large files. The per-file limit is 25MB as a guest and 50MB with a free account, which covers most documents and scans but not video — video is not a supported file type yet.

Anything requiring an audit trail or legally tracked delivery — use a service built for that.

Practical tips

Add a short note to the transfer so the recipient knows what they are downloading before they open it.

You can send up to 20 documents in a single transfer, or 50 with a free account, so a full application packet travels under one passphrase.

Send the passphrase over a different channel than the one you discussed the files in when the contents are sensitive.

Try it right now

Upload your files, get a word passphrase, download them anywhere.
